The CAAWS Mystic Krewe of Mutts Parade

The CAAWS Mystic Krewe of Mutts parade is a fun filled way to spend an unforgettable day with your dogs Mardi Gras style while parading them in what has become one of Baton Rouge's most beloved events. The parade is the largest fund-raiser for CAAWS and raises much needed funds for the CAAWS Community Outreach Spay/Neuter Program. This is a very special parade that allows dogs and their families to be a part of a Mardi Gras fun without spending a fortune. The parade is a walking parade where dogs and their owners stroll along North Blvd. in their finest Mardi Gras attire. Anyone can enter the parade. You only have to fill out an entry form and pay the entry fee. Dogs are also allowed to watch the parade on the sidelines, but it is not as much fun as being in the parade.

Parade entrants are encouraged to bring "throws" for the crowd. And don't forget to register your FLOAT. Anything that you can push or pull such as a wagon is allowed but NO motorized floats. All dogs must be on a leash. FOR SAFETY PURPOSES, NO RETRACTABLE LEASHES ARE ALLOWED, NOR ANY LEASHES LONGER THAN 6'. Your dog should have a proof of current rabies vaccination tag. No puppies under 12 weeks, aggressive dogs, or dogs in heat are allowed.

Preregistration for the parade is no longer available online, but you will still be able to pre-register at our shelter on Saturday, 6357 Quinn Dr, from 1pm until 3pm. You can print the registration form here. You can also register at the parade the morning of beginning at 10 am!

Royal Court

Once again our Grand Marshal is Cane II, namesake of our premier sponsor, Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers. She will lead the parade along with volunteers from Raising Canes.

The King and Queen was selected by CAAWS volunteers by secret ballot. They are adoptees from CAAWS who have now found a permanent loving home. From their very humble beginnings to their royal appointments, it is a true rags to riches story.

Be a part of the Royal Court

All dogs and cats are eligible to be part of the Royal Court. There is a court donation fee of $300 to enroll as a Duchess or a Duke and $200 to enroll as a Lord or Lady. Court positions are limited so apply before the January 25th deadline by filling out this form or emailing to CAAWS. The Court Fee includes: the Parade entry fee for 1 royal dog and 2 adult escorts; a position of honor in the royal court corresponding to rank of Court; a certificate stating your dog's royal title; photos on the Towne Center Beacon and CAAWS website. There is no additional charge for a float or for family members under 18.
