Oil Spill Shelter Help Needed

As a result of the oil spill disaster, many residents of the affected Parishes have turned to their local Shelter for help.

Many people have turned in their pets, feeling they couldn't afford to care for them while others have asked for assistance from the Shelter for food and supplies.

CAAWS has contacted the Parish Shelters and their most pressing needs are listed below.

We will add contact information here soon.

Lafourche Shelter

Need newspapers, small litter boxes and feeding bowls.

They receive damaged pet food from Wal-Mart and their contract prohibits them from giving out food to pet owners.

St. Bernard Shelter

Took in 288 animals in May (opposed to 60 the year before). They have waived their adoption fees.

The shelter is giving out pet food to pet owners who can prove they live in the parish, have lost their job, business, etc.

The shelter is in need of bags of dry cat and dog food.
