Special Announcement Regarding Emergency Due to Flooding in Baton Rouge And Surrounding Areas:
Our shelter and all of our animals are all accounted for, safe, and being cared for. Thanks to our wonderful and amazing fosters for loving our babies like their own and making sure all of our adoptable animals are safe, loved, DRY, and healthy!
We are taking donations now more for our community than for CAAWS as we were thankfully largely unaffected. What we receive we are packing up and redistributing around the community, to other shelters, and where needed. Last night we delivered a ton of goods to Lamar/Dixon. The goods needed are dog and cat food, blankets, towels, cat litter, paper towels, garbage bags, leashes, collars, carriers, cleaning supplies, and similar. Donated items can be brought to us at our location on Quinn Drive if you are in a position to do so. Our location is at 6357 Quinn Drive, Baton Rouge, LA.
You can donate to the CAAWS Emergency Relief Fund via PayPal by clicking here. Any donations raised above and beyond the amount needed will go to support our animals. You can also still continue to donate to our general CAAWS fund dedicated to CAAWS specific needs and expenses by visiting our donations page. As always, we are 100% volunteer based so 100% of all you donate goes directly to the animals of our community.
Our volunteers are making every effort to return all phone calls and emails but due to high volume please expect delays. Regarding phone calls specifically, due to overloaded circuits and spotty cell coverage they are unfortunately slow going. If you are able to email that is likely the best most reliable way to reach us (firstname.lastname@example.org). We may be unable to personally assist you at this time but should be able to direct you to those who can! For emergencies please always contact 911, and animal control can be reached at (225) 774-7700.
From everyone with CAAWS to everyone out there, please be safe, take care of your loved ones, and give your furry family members lots of love and kisses!
Welcome to CAAWS!
The Capital Area Animal Welfare Society (CAAWS) is a non-profit organization committed to the well-being of animals in the Baton Rouge community by providing, facilitating, and promoting spay/neuter, adopting or facilitating the adoption of homeless animals, teaching the community responsible companion animal ownership and the humane treatment of animals, and at all times promoting the practice of spay/neuter. CAAWS is not part of any animal control branch of the government including CAA and EBRAC. Our ultimate goal is to have Baton Rouge be a model in the South where all adoptable animals find loving homes.
We do not receive any government assistance and subsist solely from adoption fees, private donations and memberships. We have no paid staff so all money donated to CAAWS goes directly to the care of our animals, shelter expenses, pet food, pet supplies, or to our community outreach programs. Please support CAAWS so that we may continue our mission to help animals in our community through our public assistance programs.
Will you help us start the year off with momentum by donating $35, $70, $105 or more today? Make a secure, online donation now. Your generous contribution will ensure we have the funds needed to continue our spay and neuter program, care for homeless animals, and keep our adoptable animals safe and comfortable until they find their “furever” homes.
Please make a secure, online donation TODAY. Every dollar will have an impact, because 100% of all donations goes to help animals.
